JPEG and WebP only. PNG is lossless.

How it works

  • Lock aspect ratio (on by default): enter a width or a height and the other is calculated from your image. With both filled in, the image is scaled to fit inside that box, so it’s never distorted.
  • With the lock off and both sides set, choose Crop to fill (scales to cover the frame and trims the edges from the centre), Pad (fits the whole image and fills the rest) or Stretch.
  • Percentage scales both sides equally.
  • Quality applies to JPEG and WebP. Transparency is kept only in PNG and WebP; JPEG gets a white (or your padding colour) background.

Each result shows the dimensions before and after, the file size and a side-by-side preview. Resizing uses your browser’s high-quality smoothing and happens entirely on your device.

Example

A 4000×3000 photo with the lock on and width 1200 becomes 1200×900. With the Instagram square preset (1080×1080, lock off, Crop to fill) it is scaled to 1440×1080 and the left and right edges are trimmed, leaving a centred 1080×1080 image. With Pad, it becomes 1080×810 centred on a 1080×1080 background.

Frequently asked questions

What does “Lock aspect ratio” do?

It keeps the image’s proportions. Type a width and the height is worked out for you (or the other way round). If you enter both, the image is scaled to fit inside that box without distortion. Untick it to choose exactly how the image fills a different shape: pad, crop or stretch.

What is the difference between Pad, Crop and Stretch?

Pad keeps the whole image and fills the leftover space with a colour (or transparency). Crop scales the image to cover the whole frame and trims the edges. Stretch forces the image to the size, which distorts it if the proportions differ.

Will resizing reduce quality?

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it larger than the original can’t add detail, so it will look softer, and the tool warns you when that happens. For JPEG and WebP you can also set the quality; 85–92% is a good balance.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in your browser with the Canvas API, so your images never leave your device.

Are the social media sizes official?

They are the sizes the platforms publish or that are widely used, compiled October 2026. Platforms change layouts without notice, so check the platform’s help pages if a size is critical.
