How it works
The description is assembled in a common, easy-to-scan order: hook → summary → chapters → links → call to action → disclosure → hashtags. As you type, the tool checks:
- Chapters start at 0:00, have at least three entries, are in ascending order and are each at least 10 seconds long (YouTube’s chapter rules).
- Links start with http:// or https://.
- The total stays within YouTube’s 5,000-character limit, and there are no more than 60 hashtags.
Example
The pre-filled example produces a description with five valid chapters, two labelled links, a subscribe prompt and three hashtags (#MealPrep #BudgetMeals #StudentLife) — well within the 5,000-character limit.

Frequently asked questions
How long can a YouTube description be?
Up to 5,000 characters. The first line or two show before “…more”, so put the most useful sentence first. The character counter warns you as you approach the limit.
How do YouTube chapters work?
Add timestamps to your description. According to YouTube’s rules, the first timestamp must be 0:00, you need at least three timestamps in ascending order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long. This tool checks those rules.
Where do hashtags go?
Hashtags in the description become clickable, and YouTube may show up to three of them above the title. YouTube ignores all hashtags on a video that has more than 60, so keep it focused.
