How it works
- Total words = length × speaking pace.
- The hook gets about 5% of the time (minimum 5 seconds; 2–3 seconds for Shorts), the intro about 7%, the recap and call to action about 8% together.
- The remaining time is split evenly across your main points, each with a word budget and prompts suited to the format.
- Timestamps are cumulative, so you can reuse them as YouTube chapters.
Example
An 8-minute tutorial at 150 words per minute is about 1,200 words. With four main points, the outline gives a 24-second hook, a ~34-second intro, 1 minute 36 seconds per point, and a 38-second recap and call to action.
Check your finished script’s speaking time with the word counter.
Frequently asked questions
How are timings worked out?
From your target length and speaking pace. A typical conversational pace is around 130–160 words per minute; we default to 150. The hook and intro get a small fixed share, the call to action a short closing slot, and the rest is divided evenly between your main points.
How long should the hook be?
Short. For most videos the first few seconds decide whether people keep watching, so open with the problem, the result or the most interesting moment — not a long introduction.
Does it write the script for me?
It produces a structured outline with timings, word budgets and prompts for each section. You fill in the words — which keeps the video in your own voice.
