    How it works

    • Calendar days counts every day from the start date up to (not including) the end date, unless “Include end date” is ticked.
    • Working days skips Saturdays and Sundays and, optionally, South African public holidays. Good Friday and Family Day are calculated from the date of Easter each year; holidays falling on a Sunday move to Monday, as the Public Holidays Act requires.
    • Months + days counts whole calendar months first, then the remaining days.

Ad-hoc public holidays declared by the President are not included — check the official government announcements for those.

    Example

From 1 December 2026 to 1 January 2027 is 31 calendar days. Excluding weekends and the Day of Reconciliation (16 Dec), Christmas Day (25 Dec) and the Day of Goodwill (26 Dec, a Saturday that year), there are 21 working days.

An invoice dated 16 October 2026 with 30-day terms is due on 15 November 2026 — create it with the invoice generator.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the result include the start and end dates?

By default the day count is the number of days from the start date to the end date (the end date is not counted, as with “days until”). Tick “Include end date” to count both days, which is common for leave or rental periods.

Which public holidays are excluded from working days?

South African public holidays under the Public Holidays Act: New Year’s Day, Human Rights Day, Good Friday, Family Day, Freedom Day, Workers’ Day, Youth Day, National Women’s Day, Heritage Day, Day of Reconciliation, Christmas Day and Day of Goodwill — plus the following Monday when one falls on a Sunday. Once-off holidays declared by the President (for example for elections) are not included.

Can I add days to a date?

Yes — use the “Add or subtract days” mode to find a due date, such as an invoice due 30 days from today, in calendar days or working days.
