How it works

Age is counted in whole calendar units: first the number of full years, then full months since your last birthday, then remaining days. If the day of the month hasn’t been reached yet, one month is “borrowed” and the days of the previous month are added.

Totals (days, weeks, months) count every calendar day between the two dates. Dates are compared as calendar days, so time zones and daylight saving don’t affect the result.

Example

Someone born on 16 June 1990 is 36 years, 4 months and 0 days old on 16 October 2026 — 13,271 days in total. Their next birthday is a Wednesday, 16 June 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How is exact age calculated?

We count complete years since your date of birth, then complete months, then the remaining days — the same way people normally state age. Totals in days and weeks count every calendar day between the two dates.

What if I was born on 29 February?

In non-leap years your birthday is treated as falling on 1 March for the “next birthday” countdown, because 28 February would make you a day younger than you are. Conventions vary by country and purpose.

Can I calculate age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change the “Age on” date — for example to check someone’s age on the date of an event or an application deadline.
