Discount Calculator
Sale price and savings from a discount, stacked discounts, or the discount % between two prices.

How it works
- Saving = original × discount ÷ 100; sale price = original − saving
- Stacked discounts multiply: sale price = original × (1 − d₁ ÷ 100) × (1 − d₂ ÷ 100)
- Discount % = (original − sale) ÷ original × 100
Prices in South African shops normally include VAT, so the sale price here is also VAT-inclusive.
Example
A jacket is R400 with 25% off, and you have a 10% coupon. 400 × 0.75 = R300, then 300 × 0.90 = R270. You save R130, a total discount of 32.5% — less than the 35% you might expect.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the saving. Subtract the saving from the original price to get the sale price. 25% off R400 = R100 saving, R300 sale price.
Is 20% off plus an extra 10% off the same as 30% off?
No. Stacked discounts apply one after the other: R100 − 20% = R80, then − 10% = R72. That is a 28% total discount, not 30%.
How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original and multiply by 100. From R400 to R300 is (400 − 300) ÷ 400 × 100 = 25%.
